Lawson is a principal town for the mid-mountains and is an old, traditional township. With the dated Lawson railway station welcoming travellers, and the heritage home of Pegum's Guesthouse accommodating them, this image is maintained today, despite a relatively large shopping centre and the modern convenience of a heated swimming pool.
Many walks around Lawson and nearby Bullaburra lead you to waterfalls and rainforest. Empire Pass circles below Echo Bluff along the baseline of many waterfalls including Frederica, Fairy and St Michael's. The highlight is definitely Dante's Glen, which has crystal clear water, and naturally brilliant rainforests, as well as the convenience of picnic facilities. Flexible circuits allow for a quick or long walk, depending on your preference.
Keeping the theme of walks that encompass many waterfalls, the walk through South Lawson Park is not well known, but is well loved. A fairly difficult walk (although not too long) leads walkers through Federal Falls and Lawson creek to hazelbrook railway.
